Why get involved?
There are over 200,000 domestic workers in New York City alone. These individuals are not even included in the basic human rights bill, Intro 339, there is no domestic workers bill of rights, there are no retirement benefits, and the global pandemic has decimated these communities. Domestic workers have always been overlooked, devalued, and underrepresented. They have no legislature protecting them from discrimination, poverty, or basic human rights not by the city, state, or federal government, and enough is enough. Our agency was birthed in New York City, and we will never stop advocating for every domestic worker helping the city we thrive in, run every day. Domestic workers have been supporting families that are running the gamut of the city, high profile, celebrity, and/or wealthy, affluent families, and it is the domestic employers’ responsibility to step up and get involved in this movement or continue to contribute to systemic racism and benefit from those working in your home while turning a blind eye to the harsh realities they face once they leave. Domestic workers have been victims of this oppression long before the global pandemic and the black lives matter movement. BIPOC and immigrant women are the majority of domestic workers working in NYC and across this country. This mistreatment parallels modern-day slavery, and domestic workers are being treated like enslaved individuals in the 20th century. Innovative Youth Care stands with all domestic workers and their families to create harmony in everyone’s homes and sustainable childcare so children can thrive.
